FAQ
Where do you find your information? The research I do is online, and the records come from a wide variety of genealogy websites and database subscription services such as Family Search, Ancestry, Footnote, Heritage Quest, World Vital Records, etc. Although some genealogy records are not available on the Internet, there is a vast amount that IS available, so this type of research is a very good way to get a quick start on your family history.
Note: I will NOT use information from the thousands of family trees that can be found all over the Internet, many of which are loaded with errors. They often provide good clues for research, but many of them are not reliable sources. If I find these during research for your project, I will call them to your attention, however.
How many generations back will you be able to go? It is impossible to predict how many of your ancestors will be found during the six hours of research, but there’s a good chance I can take at least a couple of your lines back three or four generations. In the unlikely event that I find very little or nothing, you will receive a full refund. Also please note that research is limited to ancestors who spent at least part of their lives in the U.S. Please visit the Sample Packages page to get an idea of what to expect.
Are you a professional genealogist? I do not hold any certifications, but I’ve spent several years and hundreds of hours researching my own family history. I’m an indexing volunteer for FamilySearch, and I also provide lookups for Washington state genealogy researchers on another website here. My research package is geared toward those who have never done family history research, or have done some, but found it too frustrating, time-consuming or expensive. The package does not include locating missing persons, crumbling brick walls, or finding the biological parents of adopted children.
Do you offer packages in blocks of time other than six hours? Sure! Just email me for a quote.
Why does a family tree chart make such a great gift? The reasons are countless, but here are a few: ¨ At some point in their lives, most people want to know more about where they came from, so learning about ancestors and family history is very meaningful and very personal. ¨ An ancestor chart is a gift that can be handed down to future generations---a gift of lasting value. ¨ The study of our ancestors is a great way for children (and adults!) to learn history. Older children usually LOVE these charts. ¨ In addition, studying family history can open up a whole new world of conversations with living relatives. What better gift than to give someone a closer connection with family? |
